From January 1, 2025, a number of legislative changes will affect social insurance in Switzerland. The increase in minimum pensions, the gradual revision of the retirement age for women, and adjustments to family allowances and contribution rates mark a year punctuated by changes for employers and employees alike. There have recently been a number of changes in the way cross-border commuters, and more specifically those domiciled in France, can telework. Today, we’d like to take a step back from this complex issue and, in light of the latest changes, provide you with a few useful clarifications in this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Minimum AHV pension \/ Impact on BVG<\/strong><\/h2>\n

AHV\/IV pensions will be adjusted in line with price and wage trends, with a 2.9% increase from January 1, 2025. As a result, the minimum OASI\/DI pension will rise from CHF 1,225 to CHF 1,260 per month. This change has an impact on the BVG key figures:<\/p>\n

Phased retirement for women<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The retirement age for women will be gradually increased from 64 to 65 from January 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

Family allowances<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The minimum child allowance will be increased from CHF 200 to CHF 215 per month, and the education allowance from CHF 250 to CHF 268 per month, from January 1, 2025. This change affects those cantons that pay the minimum child benefit. Currently, seven cantons pay the LAFam minimum amount for child benefit (ZH, GL, SO, BL, AG, TG and TI), and six cantons apply this minimum for training allowance (ZH, GL, SO, BL, AG and TI). Family increases in the canton of Valais will rise from CHF 305 to CHF 327 from 01.01.2025.<\/p>\n

Focus on the canton of Geneva<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Minimum wage Geneva
\n<\/strong>The minimum gross hourly wage for Geneva will be CHF 24.48 for 2025 (source<\/a>).<\/p>\n

CAF rate Geneva
\n<\/strong>The rate of contributions to family allowances will rise from 2.28% to 2.25% from January 1, 2025 (source<\/a>).<\/p>\n

LAMAT rate
\n<\/strong>The cantonal maternity insurance contribution rate will fall from 0.076% to 0.064% on January 1, 2025 (source<\/a>).<\/p>\n
